We gave a presentation at Evergreen on planning and executing a distributed denial of service attack based on the How to Plan and Execute an act of Electronic Civil Disobedience zine. The intended audience was computer users who are generally familiar with computers and can navigate websites.
There were a number of resources mentioned in the class:
XAMPP - a collection of web development tools that includes perl which will allow you to run the slow lorris tool on linux, windows, or OS X.
LOIC-IRC - the version of LOIC that we demo'd in the presentation. Check out the downloads section for compiled binaries that will run on windows. While we were not able to verify that this will work on linux with mono there are reports here that may help you get it working.
Tor Browser Bundle - mentioned for maintaining privacy while surfing the web.
